Switch Installation
Before installing a Cisco switch, ensure you have a proper power source and operating conditions. Some switches power up automatically when connected to the power cable, while others have an on/off power button. The typical installation and startup process involves several steps, and it is recommended to follow them to avoid unexpected events.
- Check the switch's power requirements and operational environment, including temperature and humidity, to optimize resource consumption and prolong the switch's lifespan.
- Choose the appropriate installation method—rack mounting, wall mounting, or placing it on a table or shelf.
- Before powering on the switch, verify that network cables are properly connected, ensuring connectivity to end devices within the LAN.
- Once you power on the switch, the switch undergoes a power-on self-test (POST) during startup, where LED indicators flash as tests verify the switch's functionality.
- After the booting process, you will see the Cisco IOS software output text on the console, and you can configure it or perform other actions, such as monitoring or troubleshooting.
