LED Indicators

When evaluating a switch's performance, checking its status, or addressing issues, you typically rely on commands within the Cisco IOS CLI. However, Cisco switches also feature several LEDs on the front side that offer valuable status and troubleshooting information.

Normally, these LEDs are green when the Cisco switch operates as expected. But if there is a problem or malfunction, the LEDs change to amber, indicating that something requires investigation.

On the left side of the above image, you'll see several LEDs representing different functions, such as system, redundant power supply, status, duplex, speed, and PoE. On the right side, you’ll see separate LEDs for each switch port, located either above or below them, depending on the model.

Additionally, there's a mode button, which you can use between the supported functions and make password recovery when required. These LEDs and the mode button collectively provide valuable insights into the switch's condition and help you quickly identify and resolve issues without using the commands in the CLI.
